Searching for words again... I have come across several things recently addressing worship. It's interesting to read about it and then think about how we actually approach it. There is no denying that we have been created to worship. The issue is what our worship terminates on. When it's on the wrong thing, life gets out of whack. When we experience something we think is great, we have a need to praise it and can't wait to share it with someone else. Just look at sports. People go absolutely nuts over grown men playing a game. Why? Because it is in their hearts to worship. God doesn't need our worship. Yes, he wants it, but it is for our good. Without it, we will lose our sense of awe and gratitude. I worship every time I look up on a clear night and see the billions upon billions of points of light and remember God put them there and knows each one by name. And as the song goes, He sees the depths of my heart and He loves me the same... I had to stop and let that one sink in. Another thing I think we miss is that worship is more about our inward condition instead of what is going on around us. I know I have a tendency to make excuses when I feel the worship service is lacking when I need to look inward at my dark heart instead of saying the songs weren't right. Such a long way to go...
