I probably shouldn't post this, but I don't think anybody reads this, so it probably won't matter. I had no idea this was such an issue with some. Apparently there are those who believe if you are reading any other bible than the King James Version, you are not saved. I don't have a problem with the KJV. I think it is fine. But I also don't see the inaccuracies of other translations(NIV, HCSB, ESV...) It's hard to imagine choosing to die on that hill. I will readily admit I am lacking in knowledge on biblical history. I have read a book or two and even checked out a few (gasp) websites. I don't know if they are accurate or not. I do know how God has worked in my life and can't deny the fact that something has changed for the better regardless of which translation I use. One last thing I want to share in regard to the whole KJV debate.
17 Now I implore you, brothers, watch out for those who cause dissensions and pitfalls contrary to the doctrine you have learned. Avoid them; 18 for such people do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

You know, I think when we get to Heaven, we will find out we all had it wrong. We will answer for the petty things that were focused on instead of doing what we were supposed to be doing. Chad and I both are guilty of reading various translations :) Speaking of reading, you MUST get the book Same Kind of Different As Me. It is life changing.
The other night we shared a precious moment with Grace in which we discussing her salvation. Thank goodness we had the good ole NIV close because in attempt to read John 3:16 the KJV was not clear to her at all. We handed her the niv version and she was able to read aloud with much more ease. It was then we were able to discuss the meaning of the scripture she had just read. For whatever its worth I am glad to have a varitey of different texts to read and learn from. I agree with you in the big picture should we really spend so much time worrying about it?
KJV, NIV, NAS, NKJV, TEB, NASB, HCSB, NLT, ASV, translations ad nauseum. Pick your poison - we all have William Tyndale to thank for that. He died at the ripe old age of 42(strangled and burned at the stake in 1536) in pursuit of having the original manuscripts of God's Word (Greek and Hebrew) translated into English for the common people of his day. He was tried and convicted of heresy because he bucked the establishment of the church of England. Thank God he did. His sacrificial example is one worth following and his passionate love for God's Word and sharing it with others is incredible. God help us for getting so wrapped up in translations of the Bible. Let's just get back to the Bible - Know the Truth; Speak the Truth; Live the Truth. His Word is Truth (John 17:17). posted by John
