less (of me) IS more

Once again, the direction of this post is unknown. I am unsure if I have the vocabulary to fully convey my point... so, sorry if this gets grey. Do you ever have those times when it feels like the head and heart finally get connected and you partially understand things that you haven't perceived before? I am not claiming to be at all enlightened, it just seems like there are those rare occasions where I finally go... "Wow, I had no idea." It happens to me about twice a year so it takes a while for me to fully comprehend anything beyond 1st grade Sunday School. Lately, I haven't felt so bad about it because I've been noticing in the Bible, Jesus' disciples never had a clue. In fact on several occasions it says... "They did not understand for it was hidden from them so that they could not grasp it." Hopefully, God has a reason he is s-l-o-w-l-y revealing Himself to me. I wish it were much faster... Another verse has been floating around the ol' noggin recently...

30 "He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John 3:30 (HCSB)

Why are the ways of the world so detrimental to our spiritual health. Maybe there should be that warning, that is on tobacco and alcohol, placed on pretty much everything we "consume". The Spirit of God has determined that (fill in the blank with whatever you do) is hazardous to your spiritual (and sometimes physical) health. I am not necessarily talking about right and wrong. I think having a list like that is a dangerous game to play. It lets the super-disciplined look down on the weak-willed and become self righteous. On the other hand it also gives "regular" church attendees the feeling that they are "good" if they just go to church and don't drink beer. It goes back to the increase/decrease verse. What makes Him increase and what makes me decrease? Still tryin to figure that one out.
