Disclaimer

Warning, this may cause trouble. I may not even post it. I've had a lot of things floating around my head this past week. Yesterday in kid's church, I told them about the trip. I think they were interested. They really liked the part about the volcano. Who wouldn't? (Except the people living in the shadow of that beast, but that's another post) I told them about how some of the people there worshipped the volcano. With fire blowing out of the top and ground-shaking thunder, it seems worthy. I know it's not, but I could see how easily it could be to get confused. That brings me to this... I wonder how many things we let hold that power in our lives? Things no where near as awesome as a volcano. I'm not talking about the usual stuff. You know, money, houses, cars, sports, kids, TV, etc... What about our nation? I know I'll probably be labeled anti-American. I'm not. This is a great country. We have it made here. I know that. I'm all for honoring those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom, but... I don't think a worship service should be focused on our country. I don't think we honor God much by adorning the walls of our churches with red, white, & blue (maybe red running down the cross). It seems obnoxious to think God likes this. Isaiah 2:5-12 gives me a shudder in this context. Especially verse 18. "The idols will vanish completely." Maybe I've been gone to long.
