Tall Corn & Free Air
Been on the road. Finally got here early this afternoon. Looks like it's going to be a neat place. We have lots to do and only a couple of days to do it. The drive up hasn't been too bad. Memphis was nice. May have to go back and really check it out. Having been to Graceland a long time ago and not being an Elvis fan, I wasn't all that excited. It was more bizarre than bad. After he died there was a recording of Priscilla talking about it. She said she wondered how the world would go on without Elvis. I felt a little aggravated by that and wondered how people could be so delusional. Then (as usual) I took a look at myself... We then walked out back and looked at more of his estate. Racquetball court, horse stables, other miscellaneous buildings... grave. All that stuff, and he still ended up stuffed in a box and put in the ground. Death, the great equalizer. Didn't mean to get all heavy. The rest of the evening was great. Drove down to Mississippi and spent the night with some friends who showed true southern hospitality. Saturday was spent driving (that's where the tall corn fits into this, it looks almost ten feet tall!) and we camped that night in far eastern Tennessee. Quite an adventure. We left early (5:15 AM) this morning and drove up through the Appalachian Mountains. One of the gas stations had something I haven't seen for years. Free air. I don't know why, but that made my day better. We've been to Arlington National Cemetery today. That place is moving to see. I think we are going to rest up tonight. I just realized how tired I am. Later.

I long to visit Arlington Ntl. Cemetery. Of course you know that it was placed on the homesite of General Robert E. Lee as an insult to defeat, or so us southern gentlemen say. Serioiusly, it has to be pretty cool. Dont be knockin Elvis, man. I'm a huge fan!
